Tour Details

Step away from the beach and into a completely different side of Tamarindo. Join Howlerscapes for a two-hour journey through the quiet waterways of the Tamarindo Estuary, where mangrove forests create a protected home for an incredible variety of wildlife. Your adventure takes place by boat, giving you the chance to explore areas that are difficult to reach on foot. As you move through the mangroves, keep watch for crocodiles, howler monkeys, iguanas, and an amazing variety of tropical birds — with more than 100 bird species recorded in the area. Along the way, a certified naturalist guide will help you spot wildlife and explain how the mangrove ecosystem works, from the animals that depend on it to its importance for Costa Rica's coastal environment and biodiversity. Duration: Approximately 2 hours Meeting Point: Las Baulas Marine National Park Departure Times: Since the estuary changes with the tides, tour schedules are arranged according to daily tide conditions. Group Size: Our boat accommodates up to 20 people. If you're traveling with a larger group, contact Howlerscapes and we'll help coordinate your experience. Tamarindo is famous for its beaches, but just beyond the coastline is a world of mangroves, waterways, and wildlife. Come explore it with us.
